The 2020 Election May Be a Lose/Lose Proposition for America

The 2020 Election may be a Lose/Lose proposition for America, instead of a Win/Win situation for the Republicans or Democrats.  We can expect either of two outcomes on November 3, 2020: the re-election of President Trump on the one hand or the election of Joe Biden as president on the other. Under either case, America could be the loser.  Let me flesh out both scenarios.

The Re-Election of President Trump Scenario

The re-election of President Trump would seemingly be an excellent outcome for the Republicans, especially if they retain the Senate and win back the House.  However, given what we have seen with the protesting, looting, and civil unrest precipitated by the horrific killing of George Floyd, America may be in for an even more dangerous time, given President Trump’s re-election.  President Trump is a charismatic and effective leader for the voters on the Right, but the Left views him as the source of all evil, and the Left viscerally hates him.

The Left took to the streets after the death of Mr. Floyd, and there is little doubt that they will do so again if President Trump wins re-election.  We saw marches, demonstrations, and protests during President Trump’s first inauguration in January 2017, and they were relatively mild compared to the burning and looting we are seeing in major American cities today.  I believe his re-election will trigger far more destructive and dangerous protests by the Left.  Only time will tell.

The Election Of Joe Biden Scenario

The Joe Biden Scenario will not trigger protests and demonstrations on the Right.  But in actual harm to America, his election may be far more damaging from a public policy point of view.

From my vantage point, Joe Biden is an anomaly because I cannot fathom what he stands for and what public policy he would push for if he is elected.  We see extreme positions championed by various elements of the Democratic Left, such as the Green New Deal, Reparations for Slavery, and Democratic Socialism, to mention three that come readily to mind. Where Biden stands on these and other policies is not known.

I do not think a majority of Americans support these new Democratic positions.  To attempt to push for these policies may trigger a different kind of reaction than those prompted by President Trump’s re-election.

We are venturing into new territory here, and no one can predict the outcome.  Let’s hope wise heads will prevail on both sides, and we can prevent the death spiral of America.
