What I call stinking thinking and mendacious memes are damaging America. One meme that is especially egregious is systemic racism. Anyone who uses these two words together has lost touch with reality. The last century of America’s history has put the lie to such nonsense, especially with the election of a black American as president in 2008.
Everywhere I look, I see the results of this stinking thinking and these mendacious memes that spread like wildfire through our national discourse and show up on the nightly news and in newspaper headlines. I continue to wonder how these ideas gain traction and seep into the consciousness and vocabulary of my fellow citizens, young and old. I suspect that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are the usual suspects.
America’s language has been corrupted, and we have become a nation that uses hyperbolic language to describe everyday events. Politicians no longer disagree with one another; they attack one another’s position or policy. Similarly, interviewers and interviewees do not engage in civil discourse; instead, they smack down one another or talk over one another.
Truth, reason, and common sense have gone the way of the dodo bird. And, outrage has become the default response for everything. Young people take to the streets to protest and demand justice for whatever cause has set them off. The mainstream media describes their protests as peaceful, yet this is not at all what they are. People are killed, stores are looted, and private property is destroyed. Peaceful, how in God’s name can anyone describe these events as peaceful?
The language used by politicians, pundits, and others in the public eye does not reflect the reality that is being lived or experienced by a significant majority of Americans. Americans who live in much of our country live ordinary lives. They get up, go to work, and try to make a better life for their families. If most Americans look at what is happening in Minneapolis, Seattle, or Portland, they struggle to understand what is happening to our country.
I often write about a new triad of Rs for America: retroculture, restoring social and political power to the sovereign states, and an American renaissance of our arts and literature. The time has come for us to begin. I urge all right-thinking Americans to take a stand for our country. From my vantage point, we are fighting for our very liberty as a free people.
