What Are America’s Burning Platforms?

What are America’s burning platforms? In the oil industry, the quintessential emergency is the burning offshore platform. Escape routes are limited, and if the fire is not contained, the seriousness of the situation escalates at a geometric rate.

This simple analogy can easily be applied to the burning platforms that America must contend with, in the next 10 years. These fires have been smoking and smoldering for several years but have now burst into hot flames. I want to highlight a few that give me great concern.

America’s Public School System Is A Burning Platform

Public schools, which are really government schools, have become places of indoctrination and brainwashing. Our children are being taught what to think, not how to think. This homogenization of our children’s thinking has been underway since John Dewey advanced these ideas early in the 20th Century.

Recommendation: No parent of school children can afford to sit on the sidelines and not take an active role in reviewing, critiquing, and challenging curricula and educational approaches in our public schools. The educators and the politicians have destroyed many, if not most, of these schools. Secular and charter schools appear to be much better at educating our children. Parents must take a stand and hold educators and politicians accountable by voting any bad actors out of office whenever possible.

America’s Election System Is A Burning Platform

The 2020 Election has demonstrated that America’s election system is not fair, transparent, or immutable. The COVID Pandemic was used as a Trojan Horse to bastardize election policies, processes, and regulations. We no longer have one election day but several weeks or even months to vote. No identification is required to vote in many states, such as California; this is extremely problematic because such a process allows illegal immigrants to vote easily. Mail-in ballots without verification or validation were widely accepted with all the attendant abuse and misuse of these types of ballots.

Recommendation: The many flaws and abuses in our election process need to be corrected on a nationwide basis. We must ensure the highest integrity for our election system.  I believe the immutability, transparency, and chain of custody within the election system is the highest national priority.  Any politician who opposes or denigrates such a national priority should be a target for replacement in the next election.

The Corruption Of America’s Institutions Is A Burning Platform

Over the last four years, we have seen the corruption and politicization of the top leadership teams of several key institutions.  I, for one, cannot understand this unconscionable erosion of a true moral compass in these leaders.

Recommendation: All large-scale organizations, whether in the private or public sector, require strategic and operational audits to confirm organizational mission, strategy, and structure, every five to seven years.  The Department of Justice, the CIA, and the FBI are no exceptions.  We, the People, must ensure that the Senate and the House’s oversight committees perform their duties in an effective, timely, and thorough manner.

Other Burning Platforms

America is confronted with other burning platforms as well.  From my limited vantage point, I see the overly complex and cumbersome immigration system, the deteriorating infrastructure in America, a moribund economy, the magnitude of the national debt, and the Chinese challenge for world leadership, to mention just five with comparable priority.  If left to the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, setting national priorities will always be a non-starter.  Once again, America must have a Chief Executive Officer, with a bias for action, rather than a Chief Political Officer as so often has been the result of previous presidential elections.

Call To Action

All American citizens must become involved at the local, state, and federal levels and recognize that citizenship can no longer be just a passive activity for four years until it is time to vote for a new president.  America’s governance and greatness are far too important to allow political parties to steward and sustain them.  Remember, America belongs to We the People and not to politicians on either side of the aisle.  Sadly, these politicians no longer represent us.  They act for their own agendas and egregiously so.  We can no longer allow that to happen.
