Life Accumulates!

Life accumulates! Jim Rohn, one of my favorite mentors in the world of personal development, often repeated this phrase in his seminars and audiotapes. His thesis was that we either accumulate the assets of life or the liabilities. There is no other option. Please think about that.

The Assets of Life

By being disciplined, we can accumulate the assets of life. We can exercise daily, eat a healthy diet, and save a bit of money every day. Moreover, by reading every day in a disciplined and structured way, we can add great value to our lives. When we work harder on ourselves than we do on our jobs, we become better, wiser, stronger, and richer. Good health, financial independence, worldly wisdom all require discipline and daily effort. The rewards of accumulating life’s assets are far greater than the work associated with the daily disciplines we must practice.

Life’s Liabilities

The liabilities of life are easily accumulated as well. We can abuse our bodies by excessive drinking or doing drugs or by consuming junk food. When we are young, we do not see the effects of these bad decisions, but eventually, we will. We will suffer physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually. If we wait too long to accumulate life’s assets, the worse the outcome will be. At some point, we will reach a point of no return.  That road is too dangerous to contemplate, do not take it.
