A Personal Development Challenge for Everyone

A personal development challenge for everyone as we shelter-in-place in our homes or wherever we happen to be.  These are the times that try men’s (and women’s) souls as someone once remarked.  This COVID-19 pandemic has turned our world upside down.

I want to use this time and this opportunity to offer my readers 10 questions to challenge their thinking and to prompt some reflection.  This is my personal contribution to shifting our attention away from the pandemic if only for an hour or two.

The Back Story

I wrote these ten questions during the Fall of 2003 and sent them to several friends and business colleagues.  I also included a slightly different version of this Personal Development Challenge in my small booklet that I published in 2018; the title of which is “The Success Playbook for Everyone.”  At that time, this personal development challenge had a different purpose.  I used it as a thought starter for individuals who wanted a framework for success.  Now, I am using it to divert attention away from the pandemic and to kickstart everyone’s attention regarding leading a more mindful and aware life.  Everything in life is important, but some things are more important than others, as Jim Rohn used to say.

The Ten Questions

1. What books have influenced you the most or have had the most significant effect on your life, and how have they influenced you?

2. What individuals have had the greatest influence on your life, and how have they affected you?

3. What personal development ideas or concepts have changed your life or have had the greatest influence on you, and how and why?

4. What are your favorite inspirational or thought-provoking quotes that you often use?

5. What have been the most important decisions you have made in your life, and why were they significant?

6. What achievements or accomplishments would you like to be remembered for and why?

7. What are the ten most important life lessons or life skills you have learned?  Why are they important to you?

8. What aspects of your life make you the happiest, and why do they make you happy?

9. What actions could you start doing tomorrow that would make the most significant difference in your life or would have the greatest effect on your future?  Why are you not doing them?

10. What are your most important or critical qualities, competencies, beliefs, or values?

The Challenge In Brief

Here is the challenge for you.  It has four parts.

First, I encourage you to answers the questions as honestly and as completely as you can.  Write the answers in your journal if you have one or record them on your smartphone.

Second, I encourage you to send this list of questions to family and friends.  You may also add one or more questions of yours to the list if you so desire.

Third, please send me your answers to Questions 1, 3, 4, 7, and 10, if you are comfortable in doing so.  I want to develop a summary of responses I can use in a future post.  Please send your responses to renotraveler@gmail.com for ease of collection.

Finally, send a message or call the people whom you named in Question 2 and thank them for their help, assistance, inspiration, or motivation.

All the best during these troubling times,

Andrew
