Is There Life After COVID-19 And Lessons Learned From 2020?

Is there life after COVID-19?  The answer to that question is a resounding yes. Americans will get through this so-called pandemic and they will get through it, if they pay less attention to the various knaves, scoundrels, and autocrats whom we see around us. There is more common sense, logic, and reason in the actions and decisions of most American citizens than in any elected representative in Congress or the talking heads in the mainstream media or on the editorial pages of most newspapers.

Moreover, I believe that Americans have learned several lessons from the COVID shutdown.  I suspect these lessons have always been recognized at one level of understanding.  Now, we have demonstrable proof when we look back at 2020.

Lesson Number I

The governors of many of our sovereign states know very little about the problems of running a state.  They know even less about how to make informed decisions regarding catastrophic challenges that arise, such as the coronavirus pandemic. The ability to communicate a coherent and truthful message to their respective state residents leaves much to be desired. I submit as evidence of this incompetence the public pronouncements and decisions of Governors Cuomo, Newsom, Wolf, and Whitmer. In a more rational and logical world, these three gentlemen and one woman would be recalled.  They should never to be allowed to serve in public office again. Making mistakes is part of life and human nature.  However, making mistakes over and over again is not acceptable. I have to ask the question: Have these governors no shame and no morality?

Lesson Number II

The senators and representatives in the U.S. Congress appear to be a special kind of stupid when dealing with national responses to catastrophic challenges. Problems are never served up in nice, neat packages. They are often messy, dynamic, and, certainly, not well understood. However, shouldn’t individuals in Congress do their homework so that they get a handle on the problem? Can you imagine preparing a piece of legislation that is almost 6,000 pages long and then providing about six hours for review by their colleagues, prior to its being voted upon? That really is a special kind of stupid.

Lesson Number III

The public health establishment in the United States, as well as the World Health Organization, are bureaucracies that need to be re-engineered, downsized, and decentralized. Both entities demonstrate that centralization of power is always dangerous, regardless of whether it is political, social, educational, or medical in nature.

Lesson Number IV

Centralized power is never optimal in guiding the affairs of men. The Federal Government is not a friend of the people, not can it ever be.  Smaller And Local Government Is Always Better!  That latter phrase would make a great bumper sticker.

Lesson Number V

The American people have been lied to, over and over again.  We see this not only in the handling of the coronavirus but in the recent 2020 Election.  Men and women in positions of power lie egregiously and take actions that are not in the best interests of the American people.  Politicians used the coronavirus as a justification for making changes to the election process that were unconstitutional, most inappropriate, and prone to abuse.  How was this allowed to happen?  I have to ask the same question again: Have these individuals no shame and no morality?
