10 tips for improving your blogging. I have been blogging since May 2019 and I now have 149 posts to my credit, including this one.
Let me share with you 10 ideas I have found extremely valuable in my blogging. I suspect there are tens or even hundreds of ideas, but these 10 ideas work for me.
1. Master the world of social media. Social media and its functionality can be overwhelming, but you have to master and use essential elements. You cannot outsource this functionality because only you know whom you are writing for and why.
2. Leverage search engine optimization (SEO) to enhance the accessibility of your posts on the Internet. Google is the master of this world. Use a plug-in like Yoast to guide you through SEO.
3. Strive to keep your posts under 500 words. At the lower end, your posts must be 300 words or more to be recognizable on the Internet. Remember: simple and straightforward are powerful.
4. Write headlines with a hook. Keep your headlines to seven words or less, if possible. Writing great headlines is a study and a practice. The way to get good at it is to do your homework and follow blogs that craft great headlines.
5. Use an app like Grammarly to help with the whys and wherefores of sentence structure, syntax, and word choice. Writing well requires constant study. Keep a copy of “The Elements of Style” by Strunk and White close by for easy reference.
6. Provide a roadmap for your readers by using sub-headings, when appropriate.
7. Include internal and external links and add share buttons. The former for SEO reasons and the latter to support easy sharing and forwarding.
8. Be unique and personalize your brand. I suggest using a simple logo or a clear headshot photograph.
9. Add images or graphics as often as possible. Link images and graphics directly to your content.
10. Create a blogging schedule for yourself. I blog in the early morning and late at night. Use the concept of time/energy management to maximize your productivity.
