The title for this post is a quote from Saint Augustine. I was unaware of this quote when I wrote my little book on success principles: The Success Playbook for Everyone. In that book, I introduced the triad of success, which I used in my subtitle: The Keys to Success, Significance, and Legacy.  Success and significance are valuable, but your legacy is an order of magnitude higher. 

Since I have no children who would be a living legacy for me, I decided that I wanted my books and writings to be my legacy. Tombstones tell very little about an individual, and celebrations of life are mostly silent on this point.  In my opinion, we should celebrate the lives of our family and friends before they die.  I want to hear those words while I am living.  I do not know if I will hear them after I am dead.

So, the question before the court is simply this: what do you want to be remembered for?  Now, is the time for all of us to think about that most important of life’s questions.

I will leave you with a superb quote from Leo Rosen: “The purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate.  It is after all, to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you have lived at all.”

These are powerful words.  Do not let them go answered.
