What are the spiritual facts of life?  When we were growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, the physical facts of life garnered all the attention.  We did not learn about the “birds and the bees” from our parents because few parents had the knowledge and communication skills to tell that story.  In my case, I learned about the facts of life (that were mostly incorrect) from various more mature male friends.

I have now lived for 77 years, and I have only begun to understand the spiritual side of life. Let me present to you what I consider some of the essential spiritual facts of life. I have gathered most of these from my reading and my reflecting over the years.

Some Spiritual Facts of Life

Life has a purpose, and every human being has a specific purpose.  That purpose must be discovered by one and all through study and reflection, ideally at an early stage in life.

Absolute truth exists, despite the nonsense we encounter in our daily lives about “truthiness” and “your truth” and “my truth.”

Good and evil both exist in the world. We must always strive for goodness, and we must always do battle with evil.

Doing the right thing is never wrong.

Living as free human beings is the greatest joy of all.

All human beings are flawed, and that is okay.

Life is not fair, nor can it be made fair.  That is not going to change.

Joy and kindness are the very essence of life.  Bring joy to your life and to the lives of others. Be kind to everyone regardless of circumstances.

Knowledge is not understanding. Understanding is not wisdom.

You must love yourself first before you can truly love another human being.

All human beings wear masks.  The masks of some people are thick and opaque, and others are thin and quite transparent.

Love is the greatest gift we can give one another.

We cannot live in a universe of one. We are called upon to share our existence with others.

Call to Action

The call to action is straightforward.  All of us must become more spiritual in our daily lives by performing spiritual actions.
